In 1960, Walter M Greer (1920-2016) built his first home and studio in Sea Pines and became Hilton Head Island’s first permanent resident artist. Greer went on to become Hilton Head Island’s first art gallery director and was a founding member of the historic “Round Table” of artists that included Joe Bowler, Coby Whitmore, Ralph Ballantine Joe DeMers, George Plante and Ray Ellis, among others and was a also founding member of the Hilton Head Art League.
In this fascinating lecture, Greer's friend and former agent, Jack Morris, will talk about the life and work of Greer and also the impact of Charles Fraser's ideals of developing an accessible art colony on Cordillo Parkway.
