
Study with the stars in this week-long camp! Campers will work with a variety of local and regional theater professionals and will build confidence in their performance skills. From audition techniques to stage presence, they will learn how to home in on their acting, dancing and singing skills while exploring iconic Broadway shows and building their audition portfolio. A mini showcase will be held in the Black Box on Friday for family and friends.

At the Arts Center, Whitaker has directed Mean Girls, Something Rotten, Clue, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, LittleShop of Horrors, and RED. Prior, she has been AC’s Associate Directorfor Legally Blonde, Murder on the Orient Express, Kiss Me, Kate, and Neil Simon’s Rumors. She is Lean Ensemble Theatre’s Associate Artistic Director and Director of Community & Arts Engagement. For Lean, she has directed The Roommate and Master Class. As part of her community outreach position with the organization, Whitaker teaches theatre workshops at Pockets Full of Sunshine, Lifelong Learning, Boys & Girls Club, and others. Last year, Whitaker was Associate Artistic Director for South Carolina’s New Play Festival. She studied theatre and directing at Wake Forest University, where she directed several works, including Us/Them, In on It, and Laughtracks. As a performer, Whitaker’s Arts Center acting credits include Les Miserables, The Who’s Tommy, South Pacific, 42nd Street, Anything Goes, and Hairspray. Whitaker’s Wake Forest University theatrical acting credits include A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Bright Room Called Day, Caucasian Chalk Circle, and Spring Awakening.

Cancellations must be made 2 weeks prior to the first day of class. A $25 administration fee will be deducted from any refunded amount for all summer camps. To request a cancellation please email aadams@artshhi.com. Refunds will be mailed within 2 weeks of cancellation.
Our goal is to protect patrons, visitors, employees, staff, artists, and volunteers, as well as to mitigate the potential for the spread of illness in our community. We continue to practice enhanced cleaning procedures and students who are exhibiting any signs of illness will be asked not to attend.
Half-day campers should bring a water bottle and snack. Visual art campers should wear old clothing and/or bring a smock to protect their clothes. Theatre campers should bring a lunch.
