Stories That Shape Us

Join us on a journey as we explore Native Islander Gullah culture, from past to present . First, we will be screening, "The Spirit We Move With", an award-winning documentary celebrating the living history and resilience of the Gullah Geechee community on Hilton Head Island. Directed by Andrew Maguire and executive-produced by sixth-generation Gullah descendant Omolola (Lola) Campbell, the film centers on oral history, family ties, and the island's deep cultural foundations. The film will be followed by Gullah storytelling with Louise Cohen, the renowned authentic Gullah – Geechee Storyteller, historian, entertainer, teacher, and preserver of Gullah-Geechee Heritage, as well as a talkback.
