Take the Stage! Performing Arts Camp

Join us as we explore music, dance and drama in this one week camp. Students will be exposed to a variety of performing art forms in our Black Box Theatre and will create a mini showcase performance on Friday!

Session 1:   Monday-Friday, June 22-26
Session 2:  Monday-Friday, July 13-17

Ages 5-7:    10:00am-12:15pm
Ages 8-12:  12:45pm-3:00pm

Tuition:     $110

Mixed- Up Masterpieces Visual Arts Camp

In this one-week camp, students will study folk and fine art from all around the world that will inspire both traditional and unusual 2D and 3D masterpieces. A mini-showcase exhibit/reception will be held on Friday.

Session 1:   Monday-Friday, June 22-26

Session 2:  Monday-Friday, July 13-17

Ages 5-7:    12:45pm-3:00pm
Ages 8-12:  10:00am-12:15pm

Instructor: Carmen Kayser

Carmen is a mixed media artist who studied art history and renaissance history at Syracuse University’s program in Florence, Italy and received a Certificato Di Frequenza in photography and art theory from Fortman Studios in Florence, Italy.  In California, Carmen worked as an film/video editor for March Productions and a teacher’s assistant for the K-5 art program at The Lake School in Oakland. Carmen also worked for the Red Piano Art Gallery and Artist owner, Louanne LaRoche, for many years. In addition to maintaining her own studio and assisting local artist and instructor, Brucie Holler, Carmen has assisted Artist in Residence programs at Hilton Head Island School of the Creative Arts.  (Full artist bio below.)


Kids N’ Clay Camp

Students will learn a variety of ceramic hand building techniques: including pinch, slab, coil, surface decoration, glazing, and more!

Dates:     June 29, 30, July 1, 2, and 10

Ages:      7-12

Time:     10:00am-12:30pm
Tuition: $115

Instructor:  Carmen Kayser

NOTE:  No Class on Friday, July 3rd as we will be firing the clay pieces in the kiln and returning the following Friday to glaze the work.  At that time pieces will be fired a second time and available for pick-up in approximately 1 week.


Theatre Camp

Make a cast of new friends during this fun-filled week! Campers will experience a mini-production and will not only be the cast, but will also be the production crew.  Campers will learn how to write scripts, understand and develop characters, create sets, props, and design costumes.

Dates:     July 6-10
Ages:       9-14

Time:      9:30am-3:30pm

Instructor:  Jay Apking

Jay Apking is the founder and artistic director of the Janus Project, a theater in Cincinnati, Ohio that concentrates on the development of young people in the performing arts.  He has been teaching and performing for children for 15 years, having worked at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival and the Barter Theater in Virginia as well as touring the eastern U.S and Russia with productions.

Family Discount: 1st child pays full tuition, 2nd or more children receive 10% off tuition

Multiple Camps: Attend Take the Stage! and Mixed Up Masterpieces in the same week for a full day of fun and receive $25 off.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations must be made 2 weeks prior to the first day of class. A $25 administration fee will be deducted from any refunded amount for all summer camps. To request a cancellation please email aadams@artshhi.com. Refunds will be mailed within 2 weeks of cancellation.

What to bring:

For students attending all day camps, please provide a sack lunch and drink.   Otherwise, a water bottle is all you will need!   Art smocks are available for visual arts camps but to ensure a stress-free week please send your child in clothes that can get messy.

Carmen is a mixed media artist who studied art history and renaissance history at Syracuse University’s program in Florence, Italy and received a Certificato Di Frequenza in photography and art theory from Fortman Studios in Florence, Italy. She continues her arts education attending workshops and classes locally and the Ah Haa School for the Arts in Telluride, Colorado.
