Costume Shop Manager

Responsibilities & Necessary Qualifications:

Employment Classification: Full Time Exempt, Salaried

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team of costume staff and knowledge of costume design, history, construction, and dressing. It is essential that the individual demonstrate strong organizational, and communication skills. In addition, candidate should have the ability to delegate tasks appropriately. Budgeting time, money and resources are paramount to the success of the costume department. Immediate supervisor to full time Cutter/Draper and Wardrobe Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the construction, purchase, build and rental of costumes, pieces and wigs
  • Purchase materials required for the efficient and timely execution of costume designs
  • Track up to date expenses and maintain budgets of the costume department
  • Coordinate fitting schedules with designers, stage management, and directors
  • Recommend equipment purchases and provide maintenance for the costume department
  • Hiring/arranging of Over-hire personnel as needed
  • Oversee quality assurance of costumes from opening through closing (notes)
  • Manage inventory and rentals of Arts Center stock and enforce rental policies
  • Focus on Theatre Series productions and participate in all Arts Center functions including Spring Benefit, and Holiday Kick Off Festival
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Managing and Interpersonal skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Cutting, machine and hand sewing
  • Organization
  • Budgeting

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Theatre Major or MA degree in Costuming
  • Costume Design Experience
  • Wig Styling and Maintenance
  • Machine Maintenance
  • Craftwork

  • Works alone as well as with a group

Organizational Profile

The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is located on a barrier Island within 1 hour of Savannah, Georgia. We are a SPT – 7 Actors Equity associated producing theatre.  We work with award winning directors, designers, and actors to offer a season of musicals and plays, including both classics and contemporary Broadway Hits. We also present various Guest Artists during our season. 

The Arts Center is passionately committed to producing high-quality, professional theatre which exceeds the expectations of the residents and visitors, many of whom are regular theatre patrons in New York, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and London.

The Arts Center has successfully produced award-winning theater for 27 years in an intimate 349-seat venue in a 45,000 sq. ft. building, situated on 4.2 acres of land centrally located on Hilton Head Island, SC. Within the facility is a full scene-shop, rehearsal hall, costume shop, dressing rooms, art gallery and educational studio
