The art of salt dough is an ancient one, with roots across several continents and dating back to ancient Egyptians. The materials are readily available, inexpensive, and best of all non-toxic so salt sough projects are great for kids. The steps are much like baking and reinforce skills such as measuring and sequencing, so it can be quite educational, too!
The Arts Center is excited to have an official mailbox direct to the North Pole ... right out front near the entrance to the box office starting Saturday, November 21. Have your kids write their list, check it twice and bring their letters for drop off. The special red Santa-Mailbox will be at the Arts Center throughout the holiday season! No postage required!
Tree Lighting will be broadcast in its entirety throughout the Christmas season on the County Channel (Hargray — Channels 9 and 112; Spectrum — 1304). You'll be able to see it with the whole family on Saturday, November 28 at 7pm on one of those channels based on your service provider.
The Arts Center lights up the community with the Town's Official Tree Lighting festival on Saturday, November 20 from 3:30 – 5:30pm.
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in style on an antique fire truck to visit with children throughout the free festival, held on the Arts Center grounds.
The day is filled with holiday entertainment from local groups, arts and crafts for all ages, delicious treats from food trucks, a wonderful art market featuring the creations of local vendors (great for buying gifts and supporting local at the same time), and a performance from cast members of the Arts Center’s latest holiday hit, Elf!
Other area non-profits are featured as well such as Deep Well, Palmetto Animal League and more to begin a wonderful season of giving! Please consider donating to Deep Well by bringing an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item.
The afternoon culminates in a countdown to the Official Town Tree Lighting as the sun begins to set! A Lowcountry holiday tradition that truly is fun for the whole family!
