2018/19 Theater Season


The 2018/19 Season kicked off with the thrilling Amadeus. In December, the regional premiere of An American in Paris, full of dance, romance and glorious Gershwin rings in the holidays. Comedy awaits in February with Noel Coward’s ghostly classic Blithe Spirit. In May, get ready for one singular sensation when we produce A Chorus Line – your number #1 requested musical. And in the summer, catch the feel good romantic comedy Legally Blonde: The Musical, which is so much fun it should be illegal!!

A Chorus Line
May 1-June 2, 2019
A Chorus Line examines one day in the lives of seventeen dancers, all vying for a spot in the “chorus line” of a Broadway musical. Zach, the director and choreographer, asks each dancer to speak about themselves in this nine-time Tony Award winner. Based on real Broadway dancers’ stories as told to fellow dancer and choreographer Michael Bennett, A Chorus Line is funny, heartbreaking, and refreshingly honest.

Legally Blonde: The Musical
June 26-August 4, 2019
A fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the adored movie. Legally Blonde: The Musical, follows the transformation of the beautiful and popular Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and obstacles in pursuit of her dreams. Nominated for seven Tony awards, Legally Blonde is a blast for all ages!

Blithe Spirit
February 12-March 3
Skeptic Charles Condomine invites the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to his country estate, to hold a séance with friends. Initially thinking the séance was a failure, it seems Madame Arcati unwittingly brings back Charles’ first wife, Elvira, who wreaks havoc on the household - and his new marriage. Twists abound in this hilarious love-triangle of ghostly proportions in this Tony award-winning classic!

The Arts Center is thrilled to produce the Carolinas’ premiere of Disney’s Tony Award-winning Newsies, with jubilant music by Alan Menken and book by Harvey Fierstein. The show puts the spotlight on high-flying dance with everything from tumbling to tap. Set in New York City at the turn of the century and inspired by the real-life Newsboys strike of 1899, Newsies is the rousing tale of a charismatic newsboy who dreams of a better life far from the streets.

The Color Purple
October 4-22, 2017
The Arts Center was proud to produce the South Carolina Premiere of "The Color Purple!" From Alice Walker’s bestseller and Stephen Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated film comes a stage musical with a fresh, joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues. Hailed as “One of the greatest revivals ever!” by New York Magazine, "The Color Purple" is the epic tale of 40-years in the life of a family in rural Georgia.
