Description: Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged 'newsies,' who dreams of a better life far from the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike and take a stand for what's right. The story is inspired by the real-life Newsboys strike of 1899 in New York City, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman and book by Harvey Fierstein.

The rousing songs, high-energy dance numbers, and an uplifting story make for an evening of inspirational storytelling in the best possible sense. With Tony wins for Best Choreography and Best Musical Score, Newsies also won two Drama Desk awards and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

The Village Voice says, “Extra! Extra! Newsies is a hit.”
