Kathleen P. Bateson Receives 2019 Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor's Award for the Arts

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Kathleen Bateson is the recipient of the 2019 S.C. Arts Commission’s 2019 Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Award for the Arts in the Individual category, which is “open to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and statewide impact through their leadership, support, and advancement of the arts.” Bateson is president, CEO and executive producer of the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, a 2006 past Verner award recipient in the organization category. She is past president of the S.C. Arts Alliance board, and served as the first chair of the Arts & Cultural Council of Hilton Head. She currently serves as Chair of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry’s Women in Philanthropy.   Read More →

Michelin Junior Challenge Design Contest

In partnership with the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival, Michelin hosted its 2nd Annual Junior Challenge Design Contest. Michelin asked students at Beaufort County high schools to produce drawings and an explanation of the idea of what a classic car of the future could look like.Once the entries were received they were judged by a panel at Michelin’s headquarters and a top entry was chosen from each high school.  Read More →

Traveling ArtsReach

The Arts Center recently finished training a group of Traveling ArtsReach Program volunteers and launched this free arts enrichment program at local elementary schools in January 2019, with a goal to serve 100 elementary classrooms by May 2019. This arts enrichment program will give students in grades 1-5 the opportunity to learn about “Master Artists” as they increase their artistic literacy.  Read More →
